My House in Umbria

A year in the making, we finally signed on the dotted line and took the keys to our beautiful new house in Umbria!  The Fattoria del Gelso (literally, the Mulberry Tree Farm) is a beautiful working farm with an 18th century farmhouse, a guest annex and a couple of out buildings, located in the hamlet of Cannara, a stone's throw from the beautiful and important Umbrian hilltown of Assisi. With an extraordinary location, twenty minutes from Perugia, less than half an hour to Deruta and fifteen minutes from the beautiful hill towns of Spello and Trevi, this lush estate is also located on the Strada del Sagrantino - the sagrantino wine road - dotted with the region's most important vineyards.

Needless to say, we are thrilled at the new addition to our family.  Here are the first pictures of our baby.  More later . . .

Grammy Award winner Herbie Hancock. Jazz legend Sonny Rollins. The multi-talented Alicia Keys. Cassandra Wilson, Gary Burton and Pat Metheney are just some of the headliners at this year's Umbria Jazz Festival, celebrating its 35th anniversary this summer in Perugia.

And this year, Bella Italia will celebrate its first excursion to this internationally renowned festival, leading of trip of 8 jazz afficianados to the "green heart of Italy." In conjunction with our partner Experience Umbria, we are offering two separate 5 day packages, with front row seating at four concerts, transfers to and from performances, a guided excursion to some of the great vineyards in Umbria's Sagrantino wine district, a historic tour of the magical city of Perugia and all meals.

Bella Blogs!

One of our favorite jobs at Bella Italia has been writing daily trip reports when we go abroad.  Bill and Suzy's Excellent Adventures have provided us a great deal of enjoyment, and judging from your comments, you like it too (apologies to Sally Field).

We have migrated our user-not-so-friendly reports to a simpler blog interface, which can now be accessed by going to www.bellaitaliaonline.com/blog/travel.html. This page will be updated daily during our trip, so check back often to follow our progress.

For our more technologically capable readers, you can subscribe to the Excellent Adventures feed. By so doing, you will be automatically notified any time a new episode has been posted.  Click here for more information.
